And their responsibility ceases when the transportation company issues a receipt to NSL. Customers should protect themselves by refusing shipments that show any damage or shortage until the transportation company states in writing on the freight or delivery receipt the extent of damage or shortage. If damage is not discovered until after shipment had been accepted or unpacked, notify the transportation agent immediately for an inspection report or endorsement of the facts on the delivery receipt. Claims for concealed damage must be reported to the carrier within 15 days after receipt of shipment. Upon request NSL will furnish an original copy of the bill of lading and/or prepared freight bill to expedite your claim against the transportation company.
